Ratnagiri
The konkan is the vast, beautiful
western coast. One of its districts is the well-known Ratnagiri. It is here that
the great freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born. This man with a mission
led the "Swadeshi Movement" in the 20th century against the British.
His house - Tilak Smarak - is a landmark now and is open to visitors. Also the
"Patit Pawan Mandir" is of importance here. It was the first temple
built for the non-Brahmins by revolutionary leader, Swatantryaveer Saverkar.
Other attractions are the Bhatye beach, the Coconut Research Centre, Ratnadurg
Fort, Bhagwati Bunder (Sea-port) and the Seafood Processing Centre at Mirya.
Also
visit Thaba Palace, which was built for the
exiled King & Queen of Burma (now Myanmar) in 1910-11. They lived for five
years till their death in 1916. This is historical place, British Government
had built up this palace King Thiba was arrested by British empire from
Brahmadesh. Then after he was living in palace. Now a days Government
Polytechnic & Student's hostel is there in this palace.
Fort Ratnadurg
& Bhagwati MandirThe fort "Ratnadurg" is
at sea shore of Ratnagiri. Area is about 120 acre. The fort is surrounded by
sea. It was won by Shri Shivaji Maharaj in 1670 from Adilshah. There is temple
called Bhagwati Mandir inside fort. the ancient temple is very famous. During
Navratra festival there is big Yatra. There is two different shores at both
sides of Ratnadurg fort. One side black sand & other side white sand. So
both sea shores are known as black sea & white sea.
Other places in Ratnagiri city
Shri Bhageshwar Mandir - It
was built by well known personality Shri Bhagiji Kir, near Ratnadurg Fort. 'Veer
Vignesh'
& 'Ashtadashbhuj' Ganapati. This type of sculpture is only one in
India.
Rajiwada Bunder - It
is at Bhatye. The Bhatye beach is very clean & beautiful. there is also a
Coconut Reserch Centre of Konkan Krishi Vidhyapith.
Nature's Miracle: -
When
we visit the seashore of Ratnagiri, we witness a miracle of nature. The
coastline area surrounded by Mandavi Port in the city has black sand & the
nearby located area of Bhagvati fort has white sand so the sea here is named as
Black & White Sea.

Vithhal Rakhumai Mandir -
Intially this temple was built by shri Shankardas Gujar, then it was renovated
by his grandson Shri Bhikudas Laxmanrao Gujar.
Shri Maruti Mandir -
It is situated at heart of the city. This temple was built during the period of
Shri Shivaji Maharaj
Nivali waterfall: -
One
the way from Sangameshwar to Ratnagiri after crossing the Bav river we approach
the Nivali ghat. While crossing this ghat we sea the beautiful waterfall. It is
seen only in the rainy season.

Hatis: -
Shree Peer
Babar Shaikh is the holy place or Darga of Hindu Muslim people. During the Babar
Shaikh Yatra many Hindus & Muslims come together to pay a visit to this
sacred place or Darga. This Darga teaches us about unity.
